Where Turbeville Releases Go
Turbeville Correctional Institution is an SCDC medium-custody prison for men. It is not a county jail. Its population includes many people served through Youthful Offender Institutional Services as well as adult straight-time prisoners. A local arrest that led only to CCDC should not be searched as a Turbeville or SCDC discharge. Custody type comes first.
A completed Turbeville release may return a person to the community at sentence completion. It can also begin probation, parole, or supervised reentry through the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services. Parole is early prison release while the sentence continues under supervision. Supervised reentry also continues legal control after SCDC custody. By contrast, transfer to another SCDC institution ends the Turbeville placement but not state imprisonment.

The separate SCDC Released Inmate Search is the main historical source. It is distinct from the current Inmate Search. Begin with a release-date range broad enough to cover uncertainty. Select CLARENDON or ALL LOCATIONS, then compare SCDC ID, name, Release Date, and Release Type. The county result is an administrative field. It should not be treated as proof that the person walked out of Turbeville's gate.
- Identify the person with an SCDC ID whenever possible.
- Search the SCDC released tool by a broad date range and review both CLARENDON and ALL LOCATIONS if needed.
- Read Release Date and Release Type together. PROBATION or SUPV RE-ENTRY points to continued supervision.
- If no released result appears, check the current SCDC search for continued custody or transfer.
- Check SCDPPPS for parole, probation, community supervision, or supervised reentry.
- Use VINE for a custody-change notice, then verify the event with SCDC or the receiving authority.
A transfer out of Turbeville is not a discharge. A future projected date and a conditional parole grant also do not prove physical release.
The broader Clarendon County released inmate search separates county, state, federal, and immigration custody. That distinction matters when the last known location is uncertain.
Turbeville Release Search Fields
SCDC released results observed in the official tool show SCDC ID, name, sex, race, age, sex-offender indicator, Release Date, Release Type, and County. Exported data can add SID, victim indicator, detainer indicator, and most serious offense. Match by SCDC ID before relying on a common name. A detainer indicator can signal that another custodian may be involved after SCDC release.
Results appear ten at a time in the live view. The optional sex-offender control does not turn the tool into a general registry search. If a statutory registration question applies, use the separate SLED registry for that limited purpose. The released list is evidence of an SCDC event, but it may not provide the physical gate, full court history, destination, or end of all supervision.

Current Turbeville Custody Records
The SCDC current Inmate Search displays public information and photographs for people currently sentenced to and incarcerated in SCDC. Data are based on the preceding midnight. Former SCDC prisoners are excluded. So are county-sentenced detainees, people under parole or probation, current fugitives, and protected juvenile information. A former prisoner's absence is expected and cannot identify a release date or type.
Use the two tools as a sequence. A current result at another institution proves the person remained in SCDC custody after leaving Turbeville. A matching released result shows that SCDC later recorded an exit. When neither result settles the question, spelling, identifiers, date range, tool scope, or data timing may be responsible. Turbeville Projected Release Dates
A projected release or maxout date is planning information for someone still incarcerated. It is not a past release certificate. SCDC policy identifies those fields in inmate records, while its public calculator gives only an earliest possible case scenario based on all possible good-time and work credits. Credits can be unearned, lost, or changed. Consecutive sentences, disciplinary action, detainers, later court action, offense rules, and time credited from jail can also affect the actual date.
The calculator expressly excludes Youthful Offender Act cases. That limit is especially important at Turbeville because SCDC describes a population heavily associated with Youthful Offender Institutional Services. South Carolina's sentencing framework is offense-specific. The 85-percent minimum applies to defined no-parole offenses under statutory rules and exceptions, not to every sentence. Good-conduct and work or education credits have separate eligibility and limits. A projected date can therefore move without proving error or a new release event. Supervision After Turbeville Release
SCDPPPS, not Turbeville staff, handles adult parole, probation, community supervision, and related post-release programs. Its Offender Search accepts first and last name, SID, county, and year of birth in stated combinations. Results represent the prior day. A person who has completed supervision may no longer appear, so no match does not prove that every legal obligation ended.

Verify three separate facts when parole is claimed: the Board result, completed SCDC release, and current PPP supervision. A hearing scheduled about thirty days ahead is not a decision. Call the institution for facility-level questions. For an official sentence or release-date issue, use SCDC Inmate Records. A request for a releasable historic agency record belongs with SCDC's FOIA Coordinator rather than Clarendon County. Describe the former prisoner with full name, SCDC ID, and a narrow date range. Identify the release record or field sought and ask for electronic delivery plus a cost estimate.

SCDC's posted charges are $18.95 per hour for search, retrieval, and redaction, $0.10 per black-and-white page, and $0.25 per color page, subject to change. A focused request may reduce labor. Ask for nonexempt portions when some content is withheld, and preserve the reply because “transferred,” “released,” and “no responsive record” have different meanings.
Turbeville VINE Release Alerts
SC VINELink can provide custody or supervision status and notifications for a selected matching record. Search by name or offender number, use middle initial and date of birth where available, and confirm the reporting custodian. Registration may offer telephone, email, text, or TTY routes. A transfer between agencies can require a fresh registration because the source feed changes.
A release alert is strong evidence that the reporting agency transmitted a change. It is not a full discharge record. The notice may omit release reason, destination, detainer details, court disposition, or the end of supervision. Compare it with SCDC's released result and SCDPPPS when supervision may follow. Turbeville and the Manning Name
Turbeville Correctional Institution is the SCDC prison physically located in Clarendon County. The SCDC directory also names a “Manning Reentry/Work Release Center,” but that center is on Beckman Road in Columbia. It is not in Manning or Clarendon County. The name can send a location-based search to the wrong facility and the wrong record path.
A move from Turbeville to the Manning-named center is still an SCDC transfer. Custody continues until SCDC records an actual release. Confirm the physical address, operator, and current institution before asking for a release record. Manning is the Clarendon county seat and the location of CCDC and the local PPP office, but those facts do not relocate SCDC's Columbia work-release center.
About Turbeville Correctional Institution
SCDC lists Turbeville as a medium-custody institution for men that opened in 1994. Its prison programs and Youthful Offender focus do not turn it into a county facility. Clarendon County government does not control its sentence records or state release search. The operator determines the correct custodian, even though the prison sits inside the county.
No federal prison or dedicated ICE detention center was identified in Clarendon County. Still, a detainer can redirect a person after SCDC release. If the released export or SCDC response identifies another authority, continue with that receiving agency. For a federal sentence use BOP; for immigration custody use ICE's locator. Never treat disappearance from Turbeville or SCDC's current search as proof that the person entered the community.
